Error Description:
DGMGRL data guard failover filed with following error.
DGMGRL> failover to 'MQPRD';

Performing failover NOW, please wait...

Error: ORA-16600: not connected to target standby database for failover

Failed.

Unable to failover

Solution Description:

You need to connect to the standby database using dgmgrl utility. Suppose if you are connected to the current primary database you will get above error message. So either you will have to go to statndby database server or connect through tnsnames-service name as mentioned below.

$ dgmgrl sys/high123@TRPRO
DGMGRL for Linux: Version 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
Copyright (c) 2000, 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved.

DGMGRL> failover to 'TRPRO';
